Autosport International 2010 – Part One
Today i’ve been in Birmingham at Autosport International 2010, the show is ‘the largest dedicated Motorsport exhibition in Europe’. Here is part one of the news from day 1, including pictures and interviews.
Autosport Young Guns Series

I’ll be completely honest and say that when I saw this car on the wall with “Autosport Young Guns 2010″ next to it, I had no idea what it was about, but after talking to the Young Guns team, I realised that this car was the Zip Young Guns car that I’d seen before. The series is based around the JKS F75 space frame chassis with 6 speed paddle shift box, 750cc engine and supporting the Dunlop Great and British Festival, the series really does look to have good prospects. However, it’s of the same licence level as Formula Ford, Formula Renault and Formula Palmer Audi and so the competition will be great, but for a low cost-publicity high young series, the future looks bright. I chatted with Martin Phaff, from the Young Guns team.

Ginetta G40 Junior

The new Ginetta G40 is the replacement for the G20 Junior series and you really can tell it’s of the new Ginetta era, it takes it’s looks from the G50 with all the aspects that made the G20 Junior series such a great platform for young drivers. The car features a 1.8 litre Ford engine, 5 speed Quaife gearbox with Ginetta announcing that they “hope to offer a Part-Exchange for returning customers with G20 Junior cars for 2010.” I chatted with Simon from Ginetta, on the companys move to bring out this new car.

I also met 2 young drivers, past and future, one who has just completed his first season of Ginetta Junior and one who is looking at Ginetta Juniors for his future.

Formula Ford 2010

Now in it’s 44th year the 2010 British Formula Ford championship will definitely be one to watch, the series has this year switched to Dunlop tyres and after gaining it’s MSA status, the attention will once again be on this historic series. I caught up with Sam, the series manager to discuss how Formula Ford has stayed so competitive for so long.

Bamboo Engineering

British Touring Car team ‘Bamboo Engineering’ showed off their new simulator, but this one has a difference, the seat is mounted on hydralic mounts that move as the car would do in the simulation, if you brake the seat tilts forward, if you accelerate the seat titls back a bit. Bamboo Engineering driver Harry Vaulkhard says that he can lap within 2 tenths of his real BTCC car and that he’s solved his own problems using the simulator; we caught up earlier on today.

Thats it for this part of Day 1′s coverage, see part two for more Day 1 news and interviews.

I really enjoyed these interviews. Much better than just reading snippets in a mgazine or on the web.
The Young Guns car seems to have been around for ever. Is Martin Hines or Zip still involve because Young Guns is their brand?
I don’t know actually, but as you say the Young Guns car has been around for ages, but it used to be the Zip Young Guns, and it wasn’t mensioned at all on the Zip Kart stand so I’d assume that Martin is no longer involved!

I really enjoyed these discussions, especially the Formula Ford, lots of detail in that one.
